QUALIFICATIONS:


  • College degree, Texas Teaching Certificate, and Dance certification all preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated success directing and choreographing equipment and dance repertoire for outdoor and indoor color guard activities.
  • Strong organizational and instructional skills as demonstrated by groups previously under his/her direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract and retain members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct all activities of a 30-50-member color guard within the curriculum and instructional objectives of the band program.
  • Serve as the primary instructor for two color guard classes daily.
  • Implement a comprehensive equipment technique program as well as a fundamental movement/dance program.
  • Participate in all extra-curricular rehearsals, performances, and other activities as required.
  • Direct all recruiting efforts with the support of the Director of Bands.
  • Design, implement, and direct indoor performances during the second semester that are suitable for presentation in the community in a variety of contexts as ambassadors of the school and the total band program. This curriculum will develop skills in anticipation of the fall marching season. Competitive winter guard participation is not required.
  • Develop responsible citizens with an emphasis on social and academic integrity and leadership.
  • Assist and actively participate in staff marching production meetings and with the development of show concepts.
  • Assist and cooperate fully and willingly with the band staff in a unified effort to improve the comprehensive band program and to support one another.
  • Present a cooperative and supportive image to the public as regards professional relationships.
  • Maintain student accountability with regard to performance and participation standards.

AVAILABLE POSITION:
Melissa ISD is seeking a color guard director to instruct and manage a competitive color guard program in grades 7-12 for the 2017-2018 school year. Candidates must have strong equipment skills and experience in design, choreography, and instruction in both marching band and winter guard settings. The qualified person must be highly organized, be student focused, and possess strong program management skills. This position will coordinate with other performing group within the band and work with band directors to fulfill the clerical and supervisory needs of the overall program.

CONTRACT PERIOD:
August 2017 to June 2018

SALARY:
$22,000 - $30,000 annually
$529.00 per month district contribution toward health insurance
$10,000.00 district paid life insurance policy
$800.00 Christmas Bonus

McKinney HS Colorguard Director Position Available

McKinney High School, located in McKinney Texas, has an immediate opening for a color guard director. McKinney High School has a state recognized marching program as well as two competitive winterguards. In three years the Varsity Winterguard progressed from the Novice class to finishing 2nd in the NTCA National A Championships. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to build on our recent success. There is strong support for the program from the band staff, administration, parents, and student body. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Direct and manage the color guard program for McKinney HS. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements.
  • Teach two classes Monday through Friday everyday throughout the school year.
  • Teach June and August band camps .
  • Teach rehearsals after school with the high school marching band- 8 hours a week.
  • Maintain and rehearse two winter guards after school, JV and Varsity.
  • Attend all marching band rehearsals, football games, marching contests, and all competitive winter guard events.
  • Align rehearsal standards, teaching styles, rehearsal priorities, ensemble fundamentals, etc., with the Director of Bands, and with other staff as required.
  • Manage the overall program in show design, costumes, flag design, ordering materials, creating calendars and schedules, etc.
  • Manage support staff.
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in guard.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
